Job Description

Overview

The Welder I position is an entry-level role focused on performing welding tasks to fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures and components according to specifications and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic welding operations using methods such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding on metal parts and assemblies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings to understand welding requirements and specifications.
  • Prepare materials for welding by cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces to ensure proper weld quality.
  • Inspect completed welds for defects and make necessary adjustments or repairs to meet quality standards.
  • Maintain welding equipment and tools in good working condition and follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate work activities and meet project deadlines.
  • Document work performed and report any issues or discrepancies to the supervisor promptly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of welding techniques and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Physical ability to perform welding tasks, including standing for extended periods and handling heavy materials.
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Completion of a welding training program or apprenticeship.
  • Certification from a recognized welding organization such as the American Welding Society (AWS).
  • Experience with multiple welding processes including MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Familiarity with welding inspection and quality control procedures.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy and welding metallurgy principles.
