Overview

The Fabrication Lead is responsible for overseeing the fabrication process, ensuring timely workflow, managing workload assignments, and training employees in welding operations. The role emphasizes continuous improvement and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate oversight of Fabrication and timely workflow based on production information tools.
  • Reprioritize workload to accommodate hot and rush job requirements.
  • Run and manage grids and daily reports including timecard audits and efficiency reports.
  • Review and manage workload assignments to the Work Center Priority lists.
  • Train and educate employees on various tasks within the department.
  • Oversee time tracking of assigned employees and counsel direct reports.
  • Manage and develop the welding team, providing training and performance management.
  • Work with other department leads and foremen to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Document NCRs or ECRs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Create and maintain work instructions for all processes in Fabrication.
  • Support continuous improvement and LEAN efforts.
  • Coordinate with maintenance to keep equipment in safe working condition.
  • Address defective tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate and instill Caldwell Company Values in all work activities.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment by removing trash and debris.
  • Enforce all safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • LEAN Manufacturing / Six Sigma quality training highly preferred.
  • Five years Lead or Supervisor experience in a fabrication or similar environment.
  • Three years of experience applying continuous improvement principles.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals in various departments and levels.
  • Basic comfort level with PC based and data collection technology.
  • Strong customer orientation toward both internal and external customers.
  • Proven problem identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team on a variety of projects.
  • Ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and read a tape measure.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to stand continuously and engage in repetitive use of hands.
  • Occasionally must bend, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
