Overview
The Fabrication Lead is responsible for overseeing the fabrication process, ensuring timely workflow, managing workload assignments, and training employees in welding operations. The role emphasizes continuous improvement and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate oversight of Fabrication and timely workflow based on production information tools.
- Reprioritize workload to accommodate hot and rush job requirements.
- Run and manage grids and daily reports including timecard audits and efficiency reports.
- Review and manage workload assignments to the Work Center Priority lists.
- Train and educate employees on various tasks within the department.
- Oversee time tracking of assigned employees and counsel direct reports.
- Manage and develop the welding team, providing training and performance management.
- Work with other department leads and foremen to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Document NCRs or ECRs to drive continuous improvement.
- Create and maintain work instructions for all processes in Fabrication.
- Support continuous improvement and LEAN efforts.
- Coordinate with maintenance to keep equipment in safe working condition.
- Address defective tools and equipment.
- Demonstrate and instill Caldwell Company Values in all work activities.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment by removing trash and debris.
- Enforce all safety rules and regulations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- LEAN Manufacturing / Six Sigma quality training highly preferred.
- Five years Lead or Supervisor experience in a fabrication or similar environment.
- Three years of experience applying continuous improvement principles.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals in various departments and levels.
- Basic comfort level with PC based and data collection technology.
- Strong customer orientation toward both internal and external customers.
- Proven problem identification and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work alone or in a team on a variety of projects.
- Ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and read a tape measure.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to stand continuously and engage in repetitive use of hands.
- Occasionally must bend, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
