Overview

Vicinity Energy is North America’s largest provider of district energy solutions, committed to reducing the impacts of climate change and leading in decarbonization. The Distribution Mechanic II/Welder Journeymen performs a variety of mechanical assignments and is a member of the Bargaining Unit Member of the IUOE, Local 877.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding and burning operations.
  • Conduct shop and field repair of carbon steel pipe in accordance with ASME B31.1 code for pressure piping.
  • Weld joints that can pass X-ray examination.
  • Read and interpret blueprints (SR drawings).
  • Understand properties of steam.
  • Locate all system manholes and MLVS.
  • Understand repair and principles of operation for pumping devices, valves, PRVS, traps, piping systems, expansion joints, and anchors.
  • Be proficient at pipefitting.
  • Assist in training other Mechanic 2s and Welders.
  • Assist others as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires MA Journeyman Pipe-fitter’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current welders’ qualification (WPQ).
  • Able to follow DOT regulations when required.
  • Must submit to company provided pre-employment physical exam and drug screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver license in good standing.
  • Required to wear a half face respirator or powered air respirators (PAPR) when necessary.
  • Required to lift and/or operate machinery, tools, etc., weighing up to 50 pounds, unassisted.
  • Required to work in confined spaces.
  • Required to climb ladders and/or stairs.
  • Required to work in all adverse conditions, both indoors and outdoors all seasons.
  • Required to work in hot areas.
