Job Description

Overview

The City of Alameda Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Traffic Signal Maintenance Technician to perform installation, maintenance, and repairs on traffic control systems and electrical equipment throughout City facilities. This role supports the mission of maintaining a safe and vibrant urban environment in Alameda, a city known for its homes and beaches.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs traffic signal systems including wiring, conduits, signal poles, controllers, and electronic equipment.
  • Conducts field checks to locate issues and adjusts electronic detectors and time controllers.
  • Repairs signal pole knock-downs.
  • Installs and maintains electrical and mechanical equipment in City facilities.
  • Troubleshoots electrical problems in City facilities.
  • Operates and maintains electric and electronic measuring devices.
  • Drives and operates specialized vehicular equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and records related to traffic signal maintenance.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in electricity and electronics.
  • Progressively responsible experience in the skilled maintenance and repair of solid state control systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and maintenance techniques for traffic signal devices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and install traffic signal equipment and systems.
  • Possession of an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I Certification for Signal Technician or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Possession of a valid Class B State of California Driver's License or ability to obtain within six months.

  • Full-time position with a 40 hours/week schedule.
  • Work primarily performed outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions.
