Overview
The Wyoming Department of Corrections is dedicated to public safety and maintaining high correctional standards while providing a supportive work environment. The Skilled Trades Specialist position offers a hands-on opportunity to perform general trades and preventive maintenance functions within a correctional facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical duties including replacing light bulbs, repairing switches, and troubleshooting problems.
- Conduct general maintenance and preventative maintenance on various equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair, remodel, design, and construct state facility maintenance.
- Supervise and train inmate work crews on the proper use of tools and equipment.
- Maintain fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain heating, gas, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
- Assist with snow removal as needed.
- Maintain proper tool control and accountability.
- Use AIM maintenance management software to maintain records.
- Manage water and sewer services for the facility.
- Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematic drawings.
- Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
- Work on-call on a rotating basis including nights and weekends.
- Adhere to all WDOC policies and procedures.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of progressive work experience in a skilled trade.
- Knowledge of electrical diagnostics and applicable building codes.
- Familiarity with woodworking, metalworking, and masonry equipment.
- Basic or journeyman level competency in general construction and remodeling.
- Understanding of various woods, concrete masonry units, and repair techniques.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to construction and maintenance.
