Overview
The 2nd Shift Saw Operator is responsible for operating machines safely and productively within the Shop Operations department. This role involves laying out reference points and dimensions on various metal workpieces for further processing.
Responsibilities
- Operate machines in a safe and productive manner.
- Fit and align fabricated parts to be welded or assembled.
- Plan and develop layouts from blueprints and templates.
- Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts such as plates and frames.
- Mark curves, lines, holes, dimensions, and welding symbols onto workpieces.
- Compute layout dimensions and determine reference points for processing.
- Locate center lines and verify template positions using measuring instruments.
- Lift and position workpieces in relation to surface plates.
- Plan locations and sequences of cutting, drilling, bending, and welding operations.
- Inspect machined parts to verify conformance to specifications.
- Design and prepare templates of wood, paper, or metal.
- Brace parts in position within hulls or ships for riveting or welding.
- Add dimensional details to blueprints or drawings made by other workers.
- Supervise assigned shop employees including hiring, training, and coaching.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
- No prior experience necessary.

- Work Schedule: Variable Shifts - As determined by department management.
- Job Status: Full Time.
- Reports To: Shop Foreman.
