Overview
The City of Clearwater is seeking a Water Distribution Operator Trainee to participate in training activities related to water distribution systems. This position involves maintenance, minor repairs, and installations under direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Participates in training and education regarding the water distribution system and equipment.
- Makes daily operational checks and performs maintenance for water distribution systems.
- Performs installations, repairs, and maintenance of water mains, meters, and line extensions.
- Maintains hydrants, valves, water meters, and service lines; performs minor repairs and testing.
- Removes materials and digs ditches for laying pipe using various tools.
- Assists in the development of taps for new water mains and extensions.
- Cleans, paints, and maintains fire hydrants and water distribution appurtenances.
- Locates water and sewer lines; repairs leaks and replaces gate valves and hydrants.
- Installs, tests, and repairs water meters and backflow prevention devices.
- Provides assistance and training from other tradesworkers.
- May be required to stay after hours to complete work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid State driver's license is required.
- Must obtain and maintain Florida Department of Environmental Protection Water Distribution Operator 3 License within 2 years of hire date.
- Must obtain a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) within the probationary period and maintain Class A CDL within 2 years of hire date.
- High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or G.E.D Certificate.
- 1 year of experience as a semi-skilled laborer in maintenance or construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
