Job Description

Overview

The Medium-Heavy Duty Diesel Technician is responsible for determining vehicle condition through inspections and diagnostic tests, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring equipment availability. This role requires expertise in repairing and maintaining a variety of diesel and heavy-duty equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle condition.
  • Complete preventive maintenance schedules to keep equipment available for use.
  • Install components and part upgrades, and control corrosion.
  • Correct vehicle deficiencies by repairing, adjusting, overhauling, and replacing major assemblies and systems.
  • Verify vehicle performance through test drives and system adjustments.
  • Comply with federal, state, and city vehicle requirements.
  • Maintain vehicle appearance through cleaning and painting.
  • Annotate service and repairs to maintain vehicle records.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and maintain shop supplies.
  • Manage costs by using warranties and evaluating service options.
  • Inventory stock and place orders for supplies.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to update job knowledge.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • Graduate of Diesel Technician program or equivalent specialized training plus 2 years' experience.
  • Knowledge of construction, disassembly, assembly, adjustment, and maintenance of truck and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of gas and diesel engines, drive train, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and HVAC.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic circuitry, cylinders, and motors.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to perform welding and metalworking projects.
  • Ability to read and comprehend schematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Possess a valid New Mexico State issued driver's license with CDL Class A endorsement or ability to obtain within 18 months.
  • Must possess and maintain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in Medium-Heavy truck certification or ability to obtain within 18 months.
