Overview
The City of Burlington is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join its Equipment Services Division, which focuses on maintaining a well-functioning fleet for city operations. The role involves performing skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of heavy and off-road equipment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, service, and repair heavy trucks, trailers, and various other equipment.
- Perform thorough diagnostic assessments on complex vehicle systems.
- Inspect vehicle components and conduct preventative maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair issues related to mechanical and electronic systems.
- Utilize fleet maintenance software to maintain accurate records.
- Perform essential tire services, including flat tire repairs and replacements.
- Interpret manuals and diagrams to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
- Communicate effectively with fleet operations to ensure repair needs are met.
- Inspect city vehicles for compliance with safety standards.
- Ensure all repair work adheres to safety standards and policies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
- Extensive work experience in heavy duty equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid NC Driver’s license.
- Class (B) CDL driver's license or the ability to obtain within twelve months.
- Must obtain NCI and OBD II State Inspection Certificate after twelve-month probation.
- Thorough understanding of repair methods and tools for heavy equipment.
- Skilled in using and operating a variety of tools and machinery.
- Proficient in operating diagnostic and testing equipment.
- Capable of using computer systems for record keeping and reporting.
- Ability to interpret diagrams and repair blueprints.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
