Overview
The Railcar Welder-Mechanic position involves learning basic stick welding, assisting in general rail car repair operations, and developing skills in car repair through on-the-job experience. The role includes limited welding under supervision and routine maintenance work.
Responsibilities
- Learn basic stick welding knowledge.
- Assist in general rail car repair operations.
- Support in handling materials during repairs.
- Operate certain shop equipment and mechanical hand tools.
- Perform limited welding under close supervision.
- Conduct routine maintenance work.
- Develop basic skills in car repair through on-the-job experience.
- Assist in car rail shop maintenance.
- Perform basic cutting and welding.
- Remove and replace uncoupling levers.
- Remove and dismantle couplers.
- Remove and replace brake levers.
- Conduct car jacking.
- Supervise truck repair.
- Remove and update AEI tags.
- Certify rail car welding positions (1G Flat and 2G Horizontal).
Requirements
- 1 year of mechanic experience (preferred).
- 1 year of experience with hand tools (preferred).
- 1 year of MIG or stick welding experience (preferred).
- 1 year of brake repair experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in soldering.
- Experience in vehicle body repair.
- Experience in vehicle and fleet welding.
- Knowledge of diesel and heavy equipment systems.
