Overview
The County of Volusia is seeking Automotive Technicians for the Automotive and Light Truck shop within the Fleet Management Division located in Daytona Beach, Florida. This position involves basic maintenance and repair of automobiles, trucks, specialized vehicles, and construction equipment.
Responsibilities
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists Level II and III technicians in completing equipment maintenance and repair tasks.
- Completes uncomplicated repair tasks such as safety checks and hydraulic repairs.
- Completes minor preventive maintenance services including changing oil and tires.
- Requests repair parts utilizing service manuals and records labor times.
- Diagnoses and completes repairs that require mechanical knowledge and skill.
- Performs body-related work including replacing and adjusting body components.
- Operates various types of wrecker and equipment hauling vehicles as required.
- Overhauls and rebuilds engines, transmissions, alternators, and other components.
- Performs emergency road repair/service outside of maintenance facilities.
- Performs fabrication and welding as assigned.
Requirements
- Must produce minimum billable hours equal to or greater than 80% of total hours worked.
- Possess hand tools and equipment necessary for the performance of job duties.
- A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of appointment.
- Automotive Technician I: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, and six months mechanical maintenance work experience.
- Automotive Technician II: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and three years of automotive maintenance experience.
- Automotive Technician III: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and four years' automotive mechanical experience.
- Possess and maintain one (1) current ASE certification for Level II.
- Possess and maintain six (6) ASE certifications for Level III.
- Possess and maintain a current valid Florida Class 'B' CDL with hazardous and tanker endorsement for Level III.

- Incentive Pay up to $8.00 per hour for qualifying ASE, EVT certifications, and Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
