Job Description

Overview

The Public Works Technician (I - V) position involves unskilled or semi-skilled labor in construction and maintenance activities within the Solid Waste Division of Public Works. Technicians may operate various equipment and perform laboring duties, with the hiring level based on education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and semi-skilled laboring tasks related to refuse and recycling collection.
  • Assist in maintenance and construction of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on City vehicles and mechanical equipment.
  • Operate small to heavy construction equipment as required.
  • Follow safety procedures and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other departments to coordinate work activities.
  • Perform skilled labor and heavy equipment operation tasks for refuse collection.
  • Lead and train other personnel in various tasks and projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and/or one year of experience in manual labor or construction for Level I.
  • 10 Hr OSHA General or Construction Industry certification for Level II.
  • Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class B Permit for Level II.
  • 30-Hour OSHA General or Construction Industry certification for Level III.
  • Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class B and Tanker Endorsement for Level III.
  • All Level I & II requirements for Level III.
  • FEMA IS-0558 and various ASE certifications for Level IV.
  • 8 Hours of Leadership Training and various certifications for Level V.

Additional Information

  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
  • This position is safety sensitive and subject to drug testing.
  • May require reporting for emergency tasks during local emergencies.
