Overview

The Pipefitter is responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems for various industrial applications. The work schedule varies based on the assigned project.

Responsibilities

• Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
• Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
• Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and ensure structural integrity.
• Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
• Cut pipe using various tools including hacksaw, pipe cutters, and cutting torch.
• Thread pipe using threading machine.
• Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.
• Assemble and install a variety of metals and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings.
• Join pipe using methods such as welding, soldering, and cemented joints.
• Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
• Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
• Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges.
• Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members.
• Maintain a professional appearance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Minimum of 6 months experience or one year certificate from a technical school.
• Valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
• Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy.

Additional Information

• Days and hours vary depending on the assigned project.
• May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice.
• Position requires working in all elements – heat, cold, rain, or snow.
• May require use of personal vehicle for transportation to and from work site.
• Must be able to utilize job site sanitary facilities.
• May require work in restricted areas.
• May require working at various heights, up to 100-feet.
