Overview
The Pipefitter is responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems for various industrial applications. The work schedule varies based on the assigned project.
Responsibilities
- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
- Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
- Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and ensure structural integrity.
- Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
- Cut pipe using various tools including hacksaw, pipe cutters, and cutting torch.
- Thread pipe using threading machine.
- Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.
- Assemble and install a variety of metals and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings.
- Join pipe using methods such as welding, soldering, and cemented joints.
- Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
- Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
- Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges.
- Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Minimum of 6 months experience or one year certificate from a technical school.
- Valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
- Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy.
Additional Information
- Days and hours vary depending on the assigned project.
- May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice.
- Position requires working in all elements – heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- May require use of personal vehicle for transportation to and from work site.
- Must be able to utilize job site sanitary facilities.
- May require work in restricted areas.
- May require working at various heights, up to 100-feet.
