Overview

The Utilities Maintenance Technician performs routine maintenance and repairs on city water and sewer systems. This position involves operating various equipment and ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed effectively and safely.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and routine repairs on water and sewer mains and services.
• Repairs and replaces pumps, motors, bearings, reduction boxes, chlorine cylinders, fittings and regulators, meters, lines, valves, stops, tie-ins, taps, etc.
• Installs water and sewer taps and repairs leaks.
• Operates pickup trucks, backhoe, jet rig, ditch witch, welder, cutting torch, and safety or other equipment.
• Maintains equipment in proper working condition, including checking oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system.
• Excavates around gas, sewer, electric, and telephone lines.
• Sets up street barricades and detour routes as necessary.
• Maintains on-call status as necessary.
• May perform poly welding on gas lines while on call.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment related to natural gas and safe operation of light equipment.
• Ability to service and repair equipment at city water, gas, and wastewater facilities.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
• Ability to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather.
• Must maintain appropriate certifications and a Texas driver's license.
• Good driving record is required.

• Pre-employment drug screening and background checks are required.
• This is a DOT safety-sensitive position and random drug and alcohol screenings are required.
• Communication skills in English are required; bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are encouraged.
