Overview
The Assistant Professor of Welding position at Salt Lake Community College involves preparing and teaching college-level welding courses and labs, maintaining a professional presence on campus, and participating in various college activities. Responsibilities
- Prepare and teach college level Welding courses and labs.
- Follow the course curriculum outline and deliver lectures and labs.
- Prepare and administer student assessments and evaluations.
- Keep accurate classroom records.
- Develop and maintain written syllabi and course materials.
- Schedule and maintain office hours.
- Assist in program curriculum development.
- Assist with programmatic accreditation and assessment.
- Participate in program recruitment and outreach.
- Follow SLCC policies and procedures.
- Provide ADA accommodations as required.
- Attend and participate in college and program meetings.
- Serve on various college and program committees.
- Stay current with trends in the field through professional development.
- Maintain required certifications.
- Apply OSHA standards for lab and site safety.
- Maintain inventory control of equipment and supplies.
- Complete all required training.
- Advise students on program and course requirements.
- Demonstrate professional commitment to the Welding Technology profession.
- Teach and enforce safe practices in welding processes.
- Work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum six years of professional field experience in the Welding Industry with AWS CWI/CWE Certifications, or four years of professional welding experience with two years of teaching experience and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Welding Technology or related studies, or four years of professional field experience in the Welding Industry and a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Ability to perform department welder qualification tests using various welding processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Demonstrated proficiency in welding.
- Good reading and writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used by welders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
- All employees must maintain a permanent residence in Utah and provide a valid Utah address within 30 days of start date.
- Faculty must maintain on-site campus presence to support meaningful, in-person learning experiences.
- Finalist must complete a teaching demonstration and submit recommendation letters.
- Passing of a background check required; drug screen may be required.
