Overview
The FT Welding Instructor at Haywood Community College is responsible for delivering quality instruction in welding technology that meets industry standards. The role involves innovative teaching methodologies and adapting course content to advancements in the field.
Responsibilities
- Maintain annually updated course syllabi and provide students with course requirements.
- Prepare course materials and use appropriate teaching techniques.
- Conduct evaluations of student performance and assign grades.
- Maintain records of student attendance and grades according to policy.
- Maintain posted office hours for student conferences and tutoring.
- Develop and revise course content and instructional materials.
- Administer student surveys as prescribed by college procedure.
- Participate in the development of articulation programs and promote student participation.
- Provide instruction and career advisement to students.
- Work with students and employers in occupational settings.
- Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through continual study.
- Maintain program equipment and ensure lab safety.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in welding from a regionally accredited institution.
- At least three years of experience as a professional welder.
- Demonstrated competencies in teaching specific welding courses.
- Experience in SMAW (stick), GMAW (mig), and GTAW (tig) welding processes.
- Knowledge of oxy-fuel and plasma arc cutting processes is a plus.
- Knowledge of basic welding symbols used in the industry.
- AWS certifications or knowledge of AWS competencies is preferred.
- Previous teaching experience at a community college or university is preferred.
- Experience using instructional technologies and teaching online courses is preferred.
- Licensure and/or certification requirements specific to the teaching discipline.
Additional Information
- Courses are primarily scheduled Monday through Friday in the late day and evening hours between 3PM-11PM.
- Position start date is August 1st, 2026.
- HCC is a tobacco-free campus.
