Overview

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, is seeking a full-time Welder Mechanic II to perform supervisory duties and a wide range of journeyman level welding and mechanical work on NHDOT fleet equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform supervisory duties in the welding shop.
  • Maintain steel inventory to meet shop and NHDOT agency needs.
  • Keep records and approve work.
  • Design, install, upgrade, and maintain fleet equipment hydraulic systems.
  • Work with computer-controlled hydraulic software/hardware, sensors, and programming.
  • Assemble new trucks, prototype bodies, spreaders, and plow mounts.
  • Weld and cut with oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutter, wire feed, and stick welding in all positions.
  • Operate metal fabricating equipment and tools, mobile crane, and lift systems.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, calibrations, lubrication, and cleaning.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes endorsement.
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet minimum standards established by the hiring agency.
  • Applicant must provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic tools.
  • Must be capable of passing Bureau welding test.
  • Two years of experience as a welder or equivalency credential and completion of apprenticeship training (6000 hours) as a welder.
  • One year of experience as a welder in addition to the apprenticeship training.
  • Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes endorsement within 12 months after hiring.
