Overview
The Equipment Operator operates various road construction equipment for the City, including street sweepers and dump trucks, to assist in the maintenance and repair of city-owned facilities such as streets and storm drains.
Responsibilities
- Operates road construction equipment including street sweepers, rollers, dump trucks, and more.
- Fills and resurfaces holes, ditches, and cracks using various paving materials.
- Performs general construction work and facilities maintenance.
- Rebuilds and changes sweeper heads and gutter brooms.
- Responds to public complaints regarding road conditions.
- Cleans and disposes of special trash and debris.
- Ensures roadway is clear of debris before applying paving materials.
- Acts as a spotter for safety at work sites.
- Sets up warning devices and barricades and controls traffic.
- Cleans, inspects, and performs maintenance on field equipment.
- May serve as backup to Heavy Equipment Specialists.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Two years of experience in medium and heavy equipment operation required.
- One year of streets maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend equipment specifications.
- Ability to work after hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Must live within a 10-mile radius of City limits.
- Possess a valid New Mexico State issued driver's license.
- Possess CDL Class B endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months.
Additional Information
- Scheduled on on-call rotation and may work after normal hours.
- Work involves exposure to adverse weather conditions and moving mechanical parts.
