Overview
The Fleet Mechanic- Highway is responsible for skilled maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment, ensuring customer service expectations are met. The role involves working under general supervision, with a focus on safety and effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Perform a full range of mechanical duties on heavy mobile equipment including trucks, tractors, and snow plows.
- Troubleshoot, rebuild, and repair engines and major assemblies.
- Remove, repair, or replace defective parts in major vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct regularly scheduled inspections and safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Locate and correct short circuits in electrical systems and replace damaged wiring.
- Use diagnostic and test equipment to document work done.
- Instruct drivers on minor repairs and maintenance.
- Assist with winter operations and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Training in automotive and mechanical repair work to the journeyman level.
- Possession of a valid CDL-A driver’s license with Tank Endorsement.
- NH State inspection license or capability to obtain one upon hire.
- Knowledge of state inspection laws and heavy equipment repair.
- Ability to prepare clear reports and maintain effective communications.
- Skill in the use of pneumatic, power, and hand tools.
