Overview
The Cultural Affairs Department is seeking a part-time student worker to support events at various locations by providing exceptional customer service. The position is set to begin in January 2026.
Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding customer service for clients, guests, and co-workers.
- Maintain the order and organization of the facilities and work spaces.
- Inventory and care for event and kitchen inventory, including food and beverages, linens, chairs, tables, serviceware, and decorations.
- Assist with event set-ups according to written plans and verbal communications; reset to original state after events have concluded.
- Manage event duties when customers are onsite, including assisting servers, transporting tables and equipment, and monitoring guests.
- Assemble staging, podiums, and other structures.
- Prepare beverages and snack services and wash dishes used when service has concluded.
- Handle front-desk duties like greeting guests, answering phones, and assisting with clerical duties.
- Responsible for sales and service of beer and wine for Welder Center bar service.
- Perform other special duties as assigned by Event Services staff.
Requirements
- Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours in the Fall and Spring semester and 3 credit hours in the summer.
- Must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, including developmental courses.
- English and basic math proficiency required.
- Must be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to multi-task, have strong reasoning and problem-solving skills, and be detail-oriented.
- Must be able to maintain poise in fast-paced, high-stress situations.
- Must have strong customer service skills.
- Must be willing to complete online training for Food Handler, TABC Seller-Server, and Trained Crowd Management Certifications.
