Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic - Welder performs skilled and semi-skilled mechanical maintenance work under supervision, including welding and auto body repair. The role requires a variety of tasks related to maintenance and repair work.

Responsibilities

• Lays out, cuts, and fits material for welding.
• Preheats and cleans metals.
• Performs auto body repair work including straightening, grinding, and welding.
• Conducts general welding of worn gears using acetylene and electric arc welding.
• Brazes various non-ferrous metals.
• Inspects brushes and grind welds.
• Sharpens and tempers tools.
• Performs general repair work using lathes, drill presses, and similar equipment.
• Responds to emergency work as directed by the commissioner of Public Works.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience in related work.
• Massachusetts Driver's License may be required.
• Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
