Overview
The Maintenance Worker - Utility Line Maintenance (Water Line) position involves performing routine tasks related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of the Town's water distribution and wastewater collection systems under direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Constructs, maintains, and replaces water and sewer mains or service lines.
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs failures in water and sewer mains.
- Operates various construction equipment and builds manholes and clean-outs.
- Installs and repairs fire hydrants and valves.
- Prepares trenches and cleans sewer lines.
- Excavates water and sewer mains and services for repair.
- Operates sewer cleaning equipment to clean mains, services, manholes, and spills.
- Disassembles, cleans, repairs, replaces, and tests defective or worn parts on water meters.
- Maintains water leaks and sewer lines, and installs and changes water meters.
- Performs general maintenance duties and completes work order tickets.
- Operates various light to heavy construction equipment and tools.
- Works safely near high-speed vehicle traffic areas.
- Conducts daily inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards and problem areas.
- Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
- Must have a valid state-issued driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License within six months from the date of hire.
- Must be able to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directives.
- Must have good hand, foot, and eye coordination to operate and repair equipment.
- Must be able to operate maintenance equipment and perform strenuous physical activities.
- Must be able to work indoors, underground, and outdoors in various terrains.
- Must tolerate adverse environmental conditions.
