Overview
The Utilities Generator Technician position at the City of Delray Beach involves performing technical work in the service, diagnosis, and repair of medium and heavy-duty gas and diesel powered generators and associated equipment. The role requires a broad range of skills and experience in mechanical and electrical repair, with a focus on maintaining emergency standby generators.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, test, diagnose, adjust, repair and service a variety of emergency standby generators.
- Repair, overhaul and maintain both electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Fabricate, service and repair equipment as needed.
- Perform precision adjustment and calibration using varied measuring devices.
- Use hand or power tools and hoists for installation, removal, disassembly/assembly, or adjustment of parts.
- Provide input for new and replacement tools, equipment, and refurbishing existing equipment.
- Perform general and major repair of other City equipment as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on generators and associated equipment.
- Detect worn, defective or improperly adjusted parts by inspection.
- Follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records of repair and service operations.
Requirements
- High school graduate or an equivalency diploma.
- Five (5) years experience in performing master level mechanical/electrical repair work.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Ability to lift articles weighing more than fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use a personal computer.
