Overview
The Turf Specialist in Park Operations oversees the maintenance and improvement of county-owned turf areas, including athletic fields and public spaces. This role involves managing turf health, irrigation systems, pest control, and staff supervision while ensuring budget compliance and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
- Coordinates daily work activities and organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work.
- Ensures staff compliance with applicable codes, laws, and safety procedures.
- Trains staff on the use and maintenance of athletic fields.
- Develops and implements turf management programs for healthy turf conditions.
- Plans, organizes, schedules, and oversees maintenance projects for parks and recreation facilities.
- Evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of division operations and recommends improvements.
- Inspects and monitors athletic fields and park amenities for issues.
- Performs administrative tasks including budget monitoring and employee timecard reviews.
- Maintains inventory of division equipment and materials.
- Assists and trains staff in synthetic turf management.
- Oversees operation and maintenance of machinery and tools.
- Prepares various forms and reports related to job functions.
- Communicates with various stakeholders to coordinate work activities.
- Maintains knowledge of regulations and trends in turf management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management or closely related field.
- Three years of experience in landscape management, turf management, or related fields.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Possession of Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
