Overview

The Turf Specialist in Park Operations oversees the maintenance and improvement of county-owned turf areas, including athletic fields and public spaces. This role involves managing turf health, irrigation systems, pest control, and staff supervision while ensuring budget compliance and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
• Coordinates daily work activities and organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work.
• Ensures staff compliance with applicable codes, laws, and safety procedures.
• Trains staff on the use and maintenance of athletic fields.
• Develops and implements turf management programs for healthy turf conditions.
• Plans, organizes, schedules, and oversees maintenance projects for parks and recreation facilities.
• Evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of division operations and recommends improvements.
• Inspects and monitors athletic fields and park amenities for issues.
• Performs administrative tasks including budget monitoring and employee timecard reviews.
• Maintains inventory of division equipment and materials.
• Assists and trains staff in synthetic turf management.
• Oversees operation and maintenance of machinery and tools.
• Prepares various forms and reports related to job functions.
• Communicates with various stakeholders to coordinate work activities.
• Maintains knowledge of regulations and trends in turf management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management or closely related field.
• Three years of experience in landscape management, turf management, or related fields.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Possession of Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
