Overview

SGS is the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, recognized for sustainability, quality, and integrity. They are currently seeking a Welding/Mechanical Inspector for intermittent contract work in Casper, Wyoming and San Diego, CA, starting in June 2026.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and evaluate weld processes and related equipment for compliance with codes and safety standards.
• Verify compliance with ASME, API, NBIC, and other regulations.
• Review quality documents including WPS/PQR and issue reports or recommendations.
• Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of welds.
• Examine completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards.
• Perform in-service inspections and risk-based inspections.
• Conduct visual inspections of welded joints, checking dimensions and penetration.
• Witness non-destructive testing (NDT) and verify results.
• Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results and issues.
• Observe welders and preheating procedures.
• Record inspection results and non-conformities.
• Investigate non-conformities and assist in corrective actions.
• Communicate effectively with welders, engineers, and other personnel.

Requirements

• At least one of the following certifications: AWS CWI, API 510, API 570.
• Minimum of five years industrial welding-related inspection experience.
• Two years of experience in Quality Assurance/vendor surveillance/shop inspections.
• Industrial experience in Oil & Gas, Power & Utility, Construction, or Manufacturing.
• Experienced in inspecting welds on various manufactured products.
• Experienced in witnessing NDE tests and verifying test reports.

Additional Information

• Intermittent work schedule based on job requirements.
• Pay rate is $45/hr to $50/hr.
• Per diems will be covered at cost for inspections beyond 200 miles requiring overnight stay.
