Overview

The Machinist position involves laying out, fitting, and fabricating metal components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames and pressure vessels. The role requires expertise in machining and welding techniques, along with the ability to analyze engineering drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components for structural forms.
• Perform journeyman level welding, machining, and fabrication of metals.
• Set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control machines.
• Fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts and fit/assemble machined parts.
• Study blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Select and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors.
• Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions.
• Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications.
• Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies.
• Set up and operate welding equipment to weld metal parts.
• Examine welds for defects and ensure adherence to specifications.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area.

Requirements

• 4–6 years of experience in machining and welding operations.
• Current AWS D1.1 Certified Welder certification.
• Strong knowledge of machinist and welding trade practices.
• Prior experience operating and maintaining machine tools and welding devices.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Strong emphasis on safety, precision, and maintaining equipment.
