Job Description

Overview

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is hiring a Heavy Mechanic in Jackson, Wyoming, to support the maintenance and safety of the state's transportation infrastructure. This role involves performing skilled mechanical work on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on various automotive or heavy equipment.
  • Perform safety inspections on all types of automotive components and heavy equipment vehicles.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals to diagnose and correct problems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Rig and fabricate new equipment to district standards.
  • Create repair orders.
  • Manage the inventory of the shop, equipment, and supplies.
  • Design and fabricate parts for tractors, mowers, and machinery for specialized applications.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a related field.
  • 0-2 years of progressive work experience in Heavy Mechanics.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Preference for applicants with equipment certification exams.
  • Welder Certification card for FH&V Fillet and FH&V Grove 3/4" welds is a plus.
  • Must pass a series of seven fundamental tests including Electricity, Engines, Hydraulics, Power Trains, Administrative Procedures, Rigging, and General Shop.

  • Position is located in Jackson, Wyoming.
  • Emergency work calls may be required at any time.
  • Random drug and alcohol testing is mandatory.
  • Must provide own tools with a $50/month tool allowance.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
