Overview
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is hiring a Heavy Mechanic in Jackson, Wyoming, to support the maintenance and safety of the state's transportation infrastructure. This role involves performing skilled mechanical work on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on various automotive or heavy equipment.
- Perform safety inspections on all types of automotive components and heavy equipment vehicles.
- Read and interpret technical manuals to diagnose and correct problems on vehicles and equipment.
- Rig and fabricate new equipment to district standards.
- Create repair orders.
- Manage the inventory of the shop, equipment, and supplies.
- Design and fabricate parts for tractors, mowers, and machinery for specialized applications.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in a related field.
- 0-2 years of progressive work experience in Heavy Mechanics.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Preference for applicants with equipment certification exams.
- Welder Certification card for FH&V Fillet and FH&V Grove 3/4" welds is a plus.
- Must pass a series of seven fundamental tests including Electricity, Engines, Hydraulics, Power Trains, Administrative Procedures, Rigging, and General Shop.

- Emergency work calls may be required at any time.
- Random drug and alcohol testing is mandatory.
- Must provide own tools with a $50/month tool allowance.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
