Overview
The Traffic Maintenance Worker I/II performs physically labor-intensive and technical tasks in support of the Traffic Signage and Signal work group for the City of Renton. The role involves both independent and team-based work, contributing to the City's vision, mission, and goals.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine, entry-level duties to assist in the manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control, information signs and symbols, and channelization devices.
- Clean, prepare, and perform street marking activities.
- Assist with new installs as instructed from engineering work orders.
- Paint centerlines, crosswalks, legends, parking stalls and curbing.
- Dig holes and mix, pour and finish cement for proper installation of signposts and piping.
- Install overhead signs on signal poles and operate lift and boom vehicles.
- Assist with the placement and maintenance of traffic control devices.
- Deploy Variable Message Sign (VMS) trailers.
- Operate a street painting machine/truck to apply street and curb markings.
- Maintain adequate inventory of tools, equipment, and material supplies.
- Respond to calls regarding damaged or missing signs.
- Remove graffiti from Transportation assets.
- Maintain a variety of records related to work orders and inventory levels.
- Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
- Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this classification for Traffic Maintenance Worker 1.
- One year of traffic signage and marking experience for Traffic Maintenance Worker 2.
- IMSA sign and pavement marking level 1 certification for Traffic Maintenance Worker 2.
