Overview
The Parks Light Equipment Operator I is a non-supervisory position responsible for operating equipment and performing grounds maintenance on over 200 acres of city-owned property in Brownwood. The role requires above-average driving skills and adherence to the City of Brownwood's core values.
Responsibilities
- Operate tractor with mower attachments.
- Operate power mower, hedge trimmers, edger, and weed eater when required.
- Perform routine grounds maintenance, including cutting grass, trimming hedges and trees, planting grass, watering, filling holes, and picking up litter.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Assist in the general clean-up of all areas of the city as directed by the Parks Supervisor.
- Assist in repairs of fences, gates, walls, playground equipment, and bleachers including painting and plumbing.
- Operate welder and cutting torch.
- Assist in moving tables, chairs, and other equipment to various locations as directed by Parks Supervisor.
- Clean restrooms in park and recreational buildings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Parks Supervisor.
Requirements
- Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
- Ability to read and write effectively; comprehension and speaking skills in English.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of operating characteristics of light equipment and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to use good judgment within reasonable guidelines.
- Ability to perform manual labor and follow verbal instructions.
- One year of related experience operating tractor with mower and other related equipment.
Additional Information
- Required to work nights and weekends in cases of emergency.
- Occasional overtime hours required.
- Ability to sit, stand, and drive a vehicle to various worksites.
- Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures and mechanical and chemical hazards.
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain.
- Work involves getting dirty and wet while performing maintenance duties.
