Overview
The City of Eustis is looking for a trustworthy and responsible Heavy Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department. This role involves skilled maintenance and construction work using heavy machinery, requiring independence in routine tasks and supervision for more complex work.
Responsibilities
- Assist in training new employees and supervising maintenance and utility workers.
- Operate complex and heavy mechanical equipment, checking for improper functioning.
- Perform maintenance and make moderately complex repairs on equipment and vehicles.
- Conduct maintenance, repairs, and construction for various public works projects.
- Assist in preparation for and aftermath of major emergencies like hurricanes.
- Be on-call during emergency situations such as severe weather.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent.
- Two years experience in water distribution, labor, or maintenance work.
- Two years responsible experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
- Valid Florida Class B Commercial License with an acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and supplies in construction and maintenance.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment and detect mechanical issues.
- Ability to work on-call, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Information
- Working hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Some on-call and overtime hours may be required.
- Physical work involves frequent walking, standing, and lifting 50+ pounds.
