Overview

The Vehicle Mechanic position involves performing skilled mechanical work functions related to the repair and maintenance of diesel, automotive, and mechanical equipment. The role requires diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing various types of machinery and vehicles, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist in diagnosing, maintaining, and performing general mechanical repair work on light and heavy equipment.
• Perform general mechanical repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance work on engines and transmissions.
• Inspect, test, and repair engine components and systems including ignition and electrical systems.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on vehicles, including oil changes and tire rotations.
• Operate various machinery and tools associated with repairing and maintaining vehicles.
• Test machinery and equipment for proper operations and report problems.
• Maintain tools and equipment in operable condition and report faulty equipment.
• Assist in maintaining inventory of parts and supplies.
• Make emergency service calls for disabled vehicles.
• Perform general cleaning and housekeeping tasks in the shop area.
• Prepare and complete various forms and documentation related to repair work.
• Communicate via telephone and two-way radio to provide information and assistance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Vocational/Technical training in mechanics is preferred.
• One year of previous experience in automotive/mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License within six months of hire.
