Job Description

Overview

Prince George’s County Government offers a dynamic and inclusive workplace, currently seeking applicants for a Trades Helper I/II position in the Office of Storm Drain Maintenance. This role involves skilled and manual work in support of various crafts and trades, with opportunities for promotion based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual work related to the construction of drainage structures and highway components.
  • Assist Masonry Mechanics as necessary.
  • Operate and drive vehicles and equipment requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment in good operating condition.
  • Complete pre and post checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Check tires, fluid levels, lights, and warning devices.
  • Complete 'Vehicle Inspection Report' by checking equipment against the list of items stated.
  • Follow procedures for reporting personal injuries, vehicle accidents, and loss/damage of County property.
  • Participate as an 'essential' employee in the Department's Snow and Ice Control Program and other emergency activities.
  • Perform other tasks and duties assigned within the general occupational category.

Requirements

  • Completion of a standard high school or vocational training course.
  • Experience working as a skilled craft helper.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.

  • Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as needed.
