Overview
The Adjunct Welding Instructor at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) will teach and facilitate student learning in a competency-based welding program, preparing students for industrial employment and certifications. This position is part-time and offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in various welding processes and blueprint reading.
- Accommodate different learning styles, especially hands-on training.
- Advise students on program requirements and assess their progress.
- Collaborate with other instructors to develop quality classroom activities.
- Provide an industry viewpoint to prepare students for the workforce.
- Stay current on technological advances in welding.
- Support college and SLTC policies and guidelines.
- Maintain professional etiquette in communications.
- Conduct evaluations of student performance and provide timely feedback.
- Assist in maintaining a safe instructional environment.
- Respond to student concerns and communications promptly.
- Complete all required employee trainings.
- Administer ADA accommodations as needed.
- Communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Maintain professional boundaries with students.
Requirements
- Six years of full-time paid, non-teaching work experience as a journeyman or equivalent level as a welder, or an Associate Degree in a related field with three years of industry experience and four years of welding experience.
- Must be a current member of the American Welding Society in good standing.
- Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and know the AWS system of welding symbols.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Oxy-Acetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Cored Arc Welding, and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.
