Job Description

Overview

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is seeking a Temporary Fine Woodworking Technician for its Fine Woodworking program located in Fort Bragg, CA. This is a short-term, non-continuing position for 40 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours per week, for two weeks in Summer 2025 and as needed thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Fine Woodworking instructors with duties in Fine Woodworking facilities.
  • Help students with the use of equipment and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate operational needs of the Fine Woodworking program.
  • Assist in the bench room to support faculty in achieving instructional goals.
  • Answer technical questions from students regarding machinery and supplies.
  • Help develop the summer course schedule for Summer Session.
  • Provide instructional assistance and office support for the Summer Session.
  • Produce or fabricate materials required for student assignments.
  • Facilitate program-related activities, including exhibitions and open houses.
  • Maintain order in the bench room and machine room.
  • Monitor documentation related to student accidents.
  • Assist students in the safe use of all machines.
  • Repair woodshop machinery and procure new machinery as needed.
  • Maintain woodshop machinery and supply sharp bits and blades.
  • Design and build jigs for student use in the machine room.
  • Purchase and maintain specialty tools and supplies.
  • Coordinate the wood supply for student projects.
  • Manage finances related to student projects and supplies.
  • Maintain communication with the District Communications Department.
  • Assist in creating non-instructional documentation and forms.
  • Update the program’s website and social media.
  • Manage incoming donations to the Fine Woodworking program.

Requirements

  • Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring.
  • Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Knowledge of materials used in a Fine Woodworking environment.
  • Understanding of safety procedures in a woodworking environment.
  • Basic instructional methods and techniques.
  • Ability to operate woodworking equipment safely.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe lab environment.
  • Familiarity with software packages like Filemaker Pro, Adobe Lightroom, and MS Office.
