Overview
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full-time Heavy Mechanic to join their team in Basin, Wyoming. Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty equipment and vehicles
- Assist with diesel and gasoline engine overhauls and tune-ups
- Repair and maintain brake, steering, and transmission systems
- Service and troubleshoot hydraulic systems
- Conduct inspections to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently
- Follow all safety procedures and maintenance standards
- Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs on various diesel and automotive equipment
- Perform safety inspections on all types of automotive and diesel equipment
- Read and interpret technical manuals to diagnose and correct problems with vehicles and equipment
- Rig and fabricate new equipment to district standards
- Create repair orders
- Responsible for the inventory of the shop, equipment, and supplies
- Design and fabricate parts for tractors, mowers, and machinery for specialized applications
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment maintenance
- Interest in heavy equipment repair and diesel technology
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Preference for applicants who have completed any equipment certification exams
- Welder Certification card for FH&V Fillet and FH&V Grove 3/4" welds is a plus
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License
- Must pass a series of seven fundamental tests, including Electricity, Engines, Hydraulics, Power Trains, Administrative Procedures, Rigging, and General Shop
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of automotive maintenance and repair
- Knowledge of electronic principles and diagnostic tools
- Knowledge of light and heavy-duty automotive equipment and its parts
- Knowledge of grease and oil specifications
- Knowledge of general servicing of equipment
- Knowledge of policies and safe work procedures
- Education: Associate's Degree or 0-2 years of progressive work experience in Heavy Mechanics
