Job Description

Overview

The Welding Engineer will design glass melting equipment using SolidWorks, analyze performance, and manage various materials and workforce related to platinum operations. This role requires technical expertise in welding technology and supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design glass melting equipment in SolidWorks.
  • Analyze equipment performance through flow, heat transfer, and fatigue modeling software.
  • Develop 2D drawings, BOM list, and Job Instruction Documents.
  • Act as a business liaison to Germany for platinum-related services.
  • Serve as the business custodian for platinum for government and financial audits.
  • Order raw earth materials, including Platinum and Iridium.
  • Order refractory and insulation materials.
  • Order CNC tools and various mold-making equipment.
  • Organize shop storage areas utilizing SAP.
  • Forecast platinum usage, consumption, and recycling plans.
  • Supervise a union workforce including welders, masons, and CNC machine operators.
  • Attend daily melting direction setting meetings.
  • Troubleshoot melting issues related to equipment fabrication and maintenance.
  • Assist technicians during equipment installations through start-up qualifications.
  • Perform First Article Inspections on melting equipment.
  • Understand Certificates of Conformance and their application to equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Sciences, or Welding Engineering.
  • Equivalent combination of education and +7 years of relevant experience if less than a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in SolidWorks design and modeling.
  • Knowledgeable of FEA analysis, 2D drawing and assembly creation, and BOM creation.
  • Knowledgeable of design tolerancing.
  • Minimum of 1 year of welding technology experience (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of refractory cutting, molding, and applications experience (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of CNC programming and/or tool and die experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory leadership experience (preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Basic knowledge of SAP and/or Oracle Software.
  • Proficient in welding setups for production and blueprint reading.
