Overview
The Parks Maintenance Tech I - Irrigation position involves performing a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks related to the maintenance and operation of parks and recreation systems, with a specific focus on irrigation. The role includes supervision of lower-level employees and community service workers while ensuring the proper functioning of irrigation systems and park facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the training and/or supervision of lower-level employees or community service workers.
- Maintain irrigation systems and assist in the repair and installation of irrigation lines and heads.
- Perform irrigation audits for the 400+ irrigation zones managed by the Parks division.
- Adjust and program irrigation controllers for proper scheduling and plant health.
- Identify water waste and recommend system improvements.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot for leaks, electrical faults and water pressure problems.
- Maintain and assist with the installation and repair of park lights and light control systems.
- Perform semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Perform routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
- Carry out seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest and weed control.
- Maintain and adjust specialized turf care equipment and tools.
- Operate tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, trailers, and other equipment.
- Collect and dispose of solid waste from buildings and grounds.
- Open and close, lock and unlock facilities as needed.
- Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for park and recreation programs.
- Assist in the construction of new parks facilities.
- Keep accurate records of work completed.
- Assist with any additional job-related tasks as instructed.
