Overview

Wilson County Solid Waste Services is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator for a full-time position with a competitive salary and excellent benefits. The role involves operating heavy equipment at the County Landfill and performing related maintenance and public assistance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as front end loaders, excavators, forklifts, bulldozers, skid steers, and compactors.
• Observe waste being dumped for proper materials and separate hazardous or banned materials.
• Ensure recyclables and electronics are placed in correct locations and monitor contamination.
• Compact and cover refuse in the C&D area and load mulch for customers.
• Perform preventive maintenance and general repairs on heavy equipment.
• Assist the public with landfill access and usage.
• Perform other related work as required.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write.
• Considerable experience with heavy equipment operation.
• Valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina.
• Ability to obtain forklift training and certification within six months.
• Completion of NC SWANA Landfill Specialist training within one year.
