Job Description

Overview

The Fleet Services Mechanic is responsible for performing technical and manual work functions related to the repair, inspection, and maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, equipment, and machinery. This role involves diagnosing malfunctions, conducting repairs, and ensuring operational efficiency of various types of vehicles and heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Repair, rebuild, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform technical tasks to rebuild motors, engines, tools, and specialized systems.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests on automatic and diesel electronic systems.
  • Repair operating systems including brake systems, transmissions, and fuel injection systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as checking fluid levels and changing oil.
  • Operate machinery for part fabrication based on instructions or drawings.
  • Maintain equipment service records and warranty records.
  • Respond to service calls for disabled vehicles and troubleshoot problems.
  • Clean shop areas after projects are complete.
  • Maintain shop equipment like air compressors and hydraulic lifts.
  • Assist in repairing rims and removing stripped lug nuts.
  • Maintain grease and oil separator and perform routine maintenance on Fuel Islands.
  • Review and forward work orders using a computer program.
  • Respond to callouts and after hour calls when on call.
  • Recommend policies and procedures for quality service.
  • Incorporate continuous quality improvement principles in daily activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with vocational/technical training in automotive mechanics or diesel engine repair required.
  • Three years of experience in automotive maintenance or heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in freon recovery within six months of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A, within twelve months of hire.
  • Must be able to perform heavy physical effort and work in adverse environmental conditions.
