Overview
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the routine maintenance and repair of all school facilities, grounds, and equipment as assigned. This position requires a variety of skills in plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and general maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic plumbing and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Assist licensed plumbers and electricians on skilled plumbing and electrical projects.
- Conduct interior and exterior painting, staining, and varnishing.
- Carry out general rough/finish carpentry repairs and basic construction tasks.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
- Install drywall, including taping and joint finishing.
- Assist with special construction projects such as erecting stages and installing fences.
- Perform general grounds maintenance work including mowing and snow removal.
- Operate heavy equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
- Install and repair locks.
- Utilize personal safety equipment according to policies and procedures.
- Report any mechanical, electrical, or structural failures to the Maintenance Foreman.
- Refer major problems and complaints to the Maintenance Foreman.
- Exhibit commitment to the School District's Vision Plan.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three to four years of relevant experience or training.
- Two years of experience in general maintenance with a background in electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing trades.
- Carpentry experience related to building maintenance and repair.
- Experience using commercial riding lawn-mowing equipment.
- Experience driving a one-ton truck with a snowplow.
- Current VT driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various individuals.
