Job Description

Overview

The City of Lansing is seeking full-time Wastewater Maintenance Workers for one of the largest wastewater facilities in Michigan, offering a competitive wage and benefits package including paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors field pumping and regulator activities, regularly entering stations.
  • Reads instruments to ensure flow rates are proper and activates additional pumps when necessary.
  • Responds to alarms at facilities, performs troubleshooting, and proposes solutions.
  • Enters confined spaces as required in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Cleans, repairs, services, and operates a range of wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Performs pipe-fitting tasks such as cutting and threading pipes.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Provides training and work direction to new or temporary workers.
  • Drives and operates a pick-up truck for snow removal and towing.
  • Mows grass, trims trees, and performs other groundskeeping activities.
  • Sets up compliant traffic control.
  • Fabrics parts and rebuilds equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate standard transmission vehicles.
  • Must live within a 20-mile radius of City limits.
  • Must pass and maintain MDOT Traffic Regulator Certification.
  • Must pass and maintain Confined Space Training and Certification.
  • Must pass and maintain Powered Industrial Truck and Aerial Work Platform Certifications.
  • Must participate in a rotating On-Call Schedule.
  • Must possess and maintain a Michigan Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of Wastewater Treatment Plant and/or Pumping Station equipment.
