Overview
The Welder position is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures and equipment using various tools and welding techniques. The role requires a strong understanding of welding processes, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication methods, while also mentoring junior welders and ensuring quality work on job sites.
Responsibilities
- Pre-heats and cleans metals.
- Lays out, cuts, and fits materials for welding.
- Cuts, bends, and welds metal components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
- Fabrics metal structures and components according to design specifications.
- Performs MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and/or Flux-Core welding depending on project requirements.
- Performs cutting and welding operations on structural steel, pipe and fittings, crankcases, radiators, tanks, brackets, etc.
- Interprets and follows technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Inspects, brushes, and grinds welds.
- Lays out welding work and makes simple estimates of time and material requirements.
- Operates various hand and power tools.
- Measures and inspects finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Maintains equipment and tools in safe, clean working conditions.
- Follows all safety procedures and maintains a clean work environment.
- Researches and maintains technical competency and continuing education for certifications.
- Climbs ladders periodically to access building roofs.
- Works early morning, evening, weekend, and emergency events as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be required to be on call after hours as part of a weekly rotation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of welding experience.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding techniques on Steel, Copper, and Aluminum.
- A Class A License.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, terminology, and materials of the welding trade.
- Knowledge of hazards, safety procedures, and equipment as they apply to the welding trade.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and basic design practices.
- Skill in operating tools and equipment used in the welding trade.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to make decisions and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to read plans and blueprints.
- Ability to meet all the physical requirements of the position.

Additional Information
- Full-Time position, 40 hours per week.
- Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on the project or workload.
- Most assignments performed in a shop or construction site environment.
- May be required to work extended hours during disaster recovery operations.
