Overview
The Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring all welding activities comply with applicable codes, client specifications, and quality standards throughout the construction lifecycle. This field-based position requires strong technical knowledge, independent judgment, and the ability to work in dynamic project environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform visual and NDE of welds in accordance with applicable codes.
- Review and verify welder qualifications, WPS, and PQR.
- Monitor pre-heat, interpass, and post-weld heat treatment activities.
- Witness and document fit-up inspections including pipe alignment.
- Review and accept/reject RT, UT, MT, and PT test reports.
- Maintain accurate daily inspection reports and welder performance logs.
- Coordinate with QC managers, construction supervisors, and client representatives on weld-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with client ITPs and applicable project quality plans.
- Document and track repair welds, verifying corrective actions.
- Participate in pre-construction and pre-weld meetings as required.
Requirements
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) — required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of pipeline or heavy industrial welding inspection experience.
- Strong working knowledge of API 1104, ASME B31.4, B31.8, and AWS D1.1.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting WPS/PQR documents.
- Proficiency in weld map documentation and daily reporting.
- Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and construction specifications.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying conditions including confined spaces.
