Overview
The Gas Technician IV/Welder performs complex technical work in the fabrication and welding of natural gas facilities under the limited supervision of the Gas System Manager. The role involves both shop and field work, requiring physical exertion and adherence to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding in the shop and in the field.
- Maintain tap equipment and ensure safe installation of natural gas facilities.
- Design and fabricate meter sets.
- Assist with natural gas system repair.
- Fabricate commercial/industrial meter sets and regulator stations.
- Perform welding of steel main/service lines, including removal and replacement.
- Oversee tapping and stopping gas flow.
- Repair leaking natural gas mains and services.
- Gather measurement data for as-built drawings.
- Manage the welding shop and maintain equipment and supplies.
- Perform small welding projects as assigned.
- Provide customer service and emergency response as needed.
- Complete work orders and connect/disconnect gas service.
- Work outside normal hours in emergencies and perform on-call duties.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school and considerable experience in arc welding of utility pipelines.
- Thorough knowledge of welding methods and safety precautions.
- General knowledge of tools and materials for gas line installation and repair.
- Skill in arc welding and ability to supervise others.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and read utility maps.
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Additional Information
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license within six months of employment.
- Requires ability to pass API 1104 welding qualification test.
- Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and basic first aid certification within one year of employment.
