Overview
The Welder 2 position at Ely State Prison involves leading an inmate crew in a correctional setting, ensuring security procedures are followed while performing welding tasks and automotive repairs. The role requires knowledge of various welding techniques and the ability to document inmate performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead an inmate crew and document performance through periodic reports.
- Implement security procedures to secure the work area and ensure accountability.
- Maintain tool organization in the automotive and welding shop.
- Plan and lay out welding projects based on blueprints and material properties.
- Measure, cut, and prepare materials for welding.
- Set up and adjust welding equipment for various processes.
- Weld metal components using gas and arc welding techniques.
- Examine welds for quality and reassemble components after repairs.
- Operate machine tools for general repair work.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved welding apprenticeship training program followed by one year of journey level welding experience.
- One year of experience as a Welder I in Nevada State service or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures and hazardous material handling.
- General knowledge of metallurgy and mechanical theory.
- Skill in welding in various positions and processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
