Collier County is committed to being an employer of choice, offering long-term career opportunities. The position of Utility Specialist I - Water Distribution involves various tasks related to water utilities maintenance and requires specific qualifications and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various tasks involving water utilities maintenance projects.
  • Locates service connections and breaks; installs, repairs, or replaces valves.
  • Disassembles, maintains, and paints pumps, motors, pipes, and hydrants.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Assembles and repairs backflow devices and bacteriological sample stations.
  • Conducts cross-connection control inspections of customers.
  • Responds to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty.
  • Repairs main/service breaks and evaluates service calls.
  • Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects.
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools operable.
  • Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials used in projects.
  • Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Five months of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must complete the Sacramento Water Distribution Operator correspondence course within 6 months of hire.
  • Must possess Backflow Prevention Testing & Assembly certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Class 3 Water Distribution Technician certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain IMSA Work Zone Safety certification within twelve months of hire.
  • Must possess Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Safety in the Work Area certification within twelve months of hire.
