Overview

The Layout & Fabrication Welder position involves the layout, design, and fabrication of metal components for various vehicles and construction equipment, as well as performing welding techniques for equipment installation and repair at hydroelectric plants and other facilities. This is a journey-level role requiring skilled design and welding capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist District personnel with project work and material selection.
• Plan and perform layout and design activities for projects.
• Design and fabricate cab and chassis structures for various vehicles.
• Fabricate and install mechanical equipment for pump stations and related facilities.
• Respond to system distribution failures and perform necessary repairs.
• Fabricate and install securing structures for tanks and spillways.
• Repair equipment and vehicle parts, and install finished projects on-site.
• Maintain logs of project and maintenance activities.
• Assist with inventory maintenance and ordering of supplies.
• Maintain shop equipment and clean work areas.
• Build positive working relationships with co-workers and the public.

Requirements

• Knowledge of welding methods, practices, tools, and equipment.
• Understanding of metal properties and structural integrity.
• Familiarity with safety regulations related to construction and welding.
• Ability to perform skilled welding tasks and use various tools.
• Experience estimating costs and preparing records and reports.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Physical ability to perform installation and repair tasks.
