Job Description

Overview

Bates Technical College is seeking Welding Instructors to provide training to students, preparing them for employment in various welding-related industries. This adjunct (part-time) position is part of a vacancy pool for temporary teaching roles, typically filled on a quarterly basis.

Responsibilities

  • Use effective classroom and laboratory instructional practices to prepare students for current welding industry standards.
  • Apply appropriate media support to conduct classroom lectures and laboratory projects.
  • Mentor and guide students towards the completion of program requirements.
  • Respond to student input and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Manage a blended classroom environment with both high school age and adult learners.
  • Monitor student progress and refer them to support services as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Ensure safety practices are used at all times and that equipment is in safe working order.
  • Evaluate and document students' competency attainment and course progress.
  • Develop and maintain full program curriculum documentation.
  • Annually validate and review course competencies and adapt curriculum as needed.
  • Coordinate with other instructors and advisory committee members.
  • Maintain relationships with industry partners.
  • Participate in student recruitment.
  • Develop and maintain industry-based program accreditation.

Requirements

  • Five years of work experience in the welding industry.
  • Must obtain a Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO Welding) certification within the first year of employment.
  • Hold or obtain within 6 months of hire Current American Welding Society (AWS) standing as a Certified Welding Educator (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Completion of a two-year welding program at a technical or community college is preferred.
  • One-year supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with persons of disability and/or learning-disabled persons is preferred.
  • Prior teaching in a vocational setting is preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification is preferred.

Additional Information

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
  • A background check will be conducted once an offer of employment is made.
  • Must obtain a Professional-Technical Education Certificate within 30 working days after hire.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for reimbursable travel is required.
