Job Description

Overview

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the Carpenter position at the Parks Maintenance Group - Tree Tops Park. This role involves skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of wooden articles and structures within the parks system.

Responsibilities

  • Installs partitions, whiteboards, chalkboards, posters, paintings, and shelving.
  • Performs general office upkeep including redesign and counter tops.
  • Demos, repairs, and installs various materials including wood, metal stud, and drywall.
  • Performs structural repair and redesign.
  • Repairs and assembles large office desks, furniture, and cabinets.
  • Performs locksmith duties including cutting keys and repairing locks.
  • Repairs and installs roofing, including patching leaks.
  • Installs, repairs, and finishes ceilings and interior drywall.
  • Maintains structures and buildings for public safety.
  • Repairs and finishes concrete and sidewalk expansion joints.
  • Performs upkeep and repair of installed signage.
  • Repairs or adjusts ticket counters and vendor areas.
  • Repairs and installs various types of flooring.
  • Maintains warehouse storage facility and transports materials.
  • Constructs and assembles commercial grade storage shelving.
  • Cleans and organizes carpenter area as needed.
  • Operates motor vehicles and lifts as needed.
  • Prepares purchasing requisitions for door hardware.
  • Designs, fabricates, and installs custom cabinetry.
  • Replaces and installs broken window glass and mirrors.
  • Cleans and maintains all tools and equipment.
  • Prepares logs, reports, and tracks equipment usage.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires two years of experience in construction and/or maintenance carpentry.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License.
  • Graduation from an accredited Finish Carpentry Vocational School preferred.
  • Certified Welder preferred.
  • CDL A or B with Air Brake Endorsement preferred.
  • OSHA Safety Certificate preferred.
  • At least three years of experience reading and building from blueprints preferred.
  • At least three years working with the Florida Building Code preferred.
  • Two years of experience in drafting software preferred.
  • Mechanical Journey Level/Certificate of Competency preferred.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language (Spanish, French/Creole) preferred.
