Overview

The Boilermaker role involves constructing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing stationary steam boilers and related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Examine boilers and pressure vessels to locate defects.
- Bolt or arc weld pressure vessel structures and parts together.
- Inspect assembled vessels or components for defects.
- Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts.
- Attach rigging and signal crane operators to lift heavy sections.
- Weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leakproof joints.
- Lay out plate or sheet steel and mark cutting lines.
- Install manholes, handholes, and other connections in boilers.
- Study blueprints to determine part locations and dimensions.
- Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates.
- Shape seams or edges of pressure vessel sections.
- Position and secure structural parts to boiler frames.
- Locate and mark reference points for columns on foundations.
- Fabricate parts to adapt pressure vessels to premises.
- Clean pressure vessel equipment.
- Install refractory bricks in fireboxes.
- Assemble large vessels in an on-site fabrication shop.
Requirements
- No minimum education requirements.
- 4 years of Journeyman-level experience.
- NCCER certification.
- Valid Driver's License.
- TWIC Card.
