The Boilermaker role involves constructing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing stationary steam boilers and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Examine boilers and pressure vessels to locate defects.
• Bolt or arc weld pressure vessel structures and parts together.
• Inspect assembled vessels or components for defects.
• Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts.
• Attach rigging and signal crane operators to lift heavy sections.
• Weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leakproof joints.
• Lay out plate or sheet steel and mark cutting lines.
• Install manholes, handholes, and other connections in boilers.
• Study blueprints to determine part locations and dimensions.
• Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates.
• Shape seams or edges of pressure vessel sections.
• Position and secure structural parts to boiler frames.
• Locate and mark reference points for columns on foundations.
• Fabricate parts to adapt pressure vessels to premises.
• Clean pressure vessel equipment.
• Install refractory bricks in fireboxes.
• Assemble large vessels in an on-site fabrication shop.

Requirements

• No minimum education requirements.
• 4 years of Journeyman-level experience.
• NCCER certification.
• Valid Driver's License.
• TWIC Card.
